The Church Suffering serves the poor souls in purgatory. In the Church Militant the Sacrament of Holy Orders confers on each deacon, priest and bishop an indelible character § 1581 which enables him to “serve as Christ’s instrument for his Church.” § 1583 “The character imprinted by ordination is forever. The vocation and mission received on the day of his ordination mark him permanently.” From this we know that the deacons, priests and bishops we encounter in the Church Suffering are authentic. Each one first served incarnate in his order in the Church Militant, but did not accumulate enough sanctifying grace to take him straight to the Church Triumphant.
And so what the Book of Hebrews, written by the Church Militant, says of Rabbi Yeshua is also true of the Church Suffering clergy. “For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sinning” Heb 4:15.
The poor souls in the Church Suffering continue to be purged of their venial sins, or of the temporal punishment remaining from their forgiven sins, but they have passed their particular judgment and therefore are no longer able to offend Rabbi Yeshua.
