Tzadik

A rabbi of great wisdom and holiness, a sage, from the Hebrew word tzedek, righteous. The Jewish hero is not the great military leader but the mighty warrior who conquers his fallen nature, his propensity for pride and other sins to live a humble, righteous, exemplary life. Jews often translate tzadik as “saint.”
